As the soccer loving township Soweto prepares for the FIFA 2010 World Cup, Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers is preparing to host soccer fans and travellers from all over the world. “Lebo’s” has been offering a unique travelling experience since its start in 2003. It is the first and only Backpackers in Soweto and one of few in a township in South Africa, it is locally owned and employs local guides to take guests around on tours. The Backpackers is situated in Orlando West, a vibrant, safe and historically rich community. Walking distance to attractions such as Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial, Nelson Mandela Family Museum, Vilakazi Street and the recent up-graded Orlando Stadium, training ground during the World Cup. A few kilometres away is the spectacular new Soccer City which will be the main stadium during FIFA 2010 playing the opening and final games. The second biggest stadium in Johannesburg – Ellis Park, also hosting several World Cup games, is situated on a 40 minutes drive from Soweto. In total 15 soccer games will be played in Johannesburg during the World Cup. LEBO’S SOWETO 2010 CAMPSITETo add on the spirit of having the FIFA Soccer World Cup on our door step, “Lebo’s” will offer its very own community fan-park right outside the Backpackers. The park is a play and sports ground for children in the community and during the World Cup this will be a meeting point for local people and our guests to celebrate the big Soccer Party. The park will also offer Soweto’s very first camp-site and the only one of its kind in South Africa. Lebo’s Soweto 2010 Campsite will offer fully equipped caravans that sleep 2-4 people as well as tents sleeping 2-4 people. There will be toilet and shower facilities, communal self-catering kitchen and food served on site. For those not going to the stadiums for the games there will be match viewing facilities and local entertainment such as music, dance, theatre etc. All organised in the spirit of community and with local performers. Not only will a stay at Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers and the 2010 Camp Site be a unique World Cup experience, it will benefit the community and bring local people and travellers together celebrating the world’s biggest event.
