Lebo

Soweto born and bred, I began welcoming tourists to my family home in 1999 when tourism was still a fledgling industry in the township. At the time I sold crafts next to the Hector Pieterson memorial. It was then that I started to show some entrepreneurial skills and developing original projects such as a range of postcards, posters and T- shirts about Soweto. From there, I decided to turn my family home into Lebo's Soweto Backpackers, so that rather than stopping for a few minutes tourists could stay and experience Soweto differently. In 2003 the backpackers officially opened. A couple of years later, I started the now popular Soweto Bicycle Tours taking people out of the cars and on to the streets of Soweto.

I am part of the managing team at Lebo’s. I am also a guide for the popular Soweto Bicycle tours. I take our guests around the community introducing them to everything from previous anti-Apartheid struggles, home brewed beer and today’s vibey township life.

I'm the Manager at Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers. I am from Sweden but got hooked on South Africa after a one year stay. I came back and found a home in Soweto. I am dedicated to growing the business with Lebo and making sure that tourism is responsible and sustainable.
